Umrah

Umrah is the minor pilgrimage of Islam that Muslims can perform at any time of the year. There is no specific time for an Umrah trip like the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage. In Islam, the present status of Umrah became clear and legal after the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) towards Madinah. But the foundation of pilgrimage was laid by Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) and His son Prophet Ismail (A.S) when they built the Holy Kaaba. For centuries, the Arabs (despite being polytheists) and Muslims continued to perform rituals. Today, in this modern era, only Muslims can enter and perform Umrah in Makkah.

You can only conduct rituals of Umrah inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah. This means that if you live somewhere far away in the world, you will have to travel miles to get there. This will be called your Umrah trip. For Muslims, this is a life-changing trip because they ask Allah SWT for forgiveness during this trip, and Allah SWT forgive them. That’s actually the real purpose of pilgrimage.

Umrah Purifies Sins – A Fresh Start

The term “a fresh start” after forgiveness of sins is not general because when a Muslim go to Umrah, it’s not a journey from one place to Makkah, but to shed the burden of sins. The following words of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) appear in the Hadith books about the forgiveness of sins:

“One Umrah after another is an expiation for the sins committed between.” – Sahih al-Bukhari: 1773

The important rituals of pilgrimage are Tawaf and Sa’ee. These are the rituals when believers stand in front of the Holy Kaaba and ask forgiveness from God. In response, Allah SWT is Most Forgiving and Merciful to humans. According to Islamic scholars, Umrah purify sins, but major sins require true repentance.

So, pilgrimage gives the best opportunity where a person can make such true repentance. Therefore, psychologically, when you wear Ihram attire, you forget about worldly matters and think, “I have changed now”.

The Acceptance of Supplications

When prayers are accepted, the lives that change seem nothing short of a miracle. By the way, there are some special places and occasions in Makkah and Madinah where the mercy of Allah SWT is at its peak. Your life can change if you pray in these moments. Try to supplicate at Multazam (a place between the Holy Kaaba and the Black Stone), the moment of first sighting the Holy Kaaba, Tawaf and Sa’ee, under the Mizab-e-Rehmat (gold water outlet in the roof of the Kaaba). You can also read Duas while drinking the Zamzam water. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.” – Sunan Ibn Majah: 3062

Allah SWT will accept all your Duas if you read from a pure heart with intention. Remember that when you are performing Umrah, you are the guest of Allah SWT. An old example is if even a worldly king doesn’t send his guests back empty-handed, then how can Allah SWT send His guest back empty? So, believe in Allah SWT, He is the only to response your calls. Your life can change when supplications are accepted.

Spiritual Peace – A Reset

To change life, it’s necessary to reset your lifestyle. When we get caught in the hustle and bustle of the world, our connection with the Creator begins to weaken. Here, re-programming is a must to get spiritual peace and a new start in life. But the question arises, how does Umrah give Muslims spiritual peace? What does the reset mean here?

During Umrah, you are being disconnected from worldly matters and all your attention is focused only on Allah SWT. Phone calls, work tensions, and household issues all seem small. Moreover, psychologically and scientifically, when you see the Kaaba for the first time, a state of awe comes over you. Those moments make you realise how small you are and how big Allah SWT is.

Guilt and bad deeds make a person most restless. When you ask for forgiveness from Allah SWT during the Umrah trip and cry while touching or seeing the Holy Kaaba, it’s actually catharsis. In short, you shed your old bad habits and mental pressures and return with a positive mindset and strong faith.

The Training of Patience and Endurance

An Umrah trip is not just about performing rituals; it’s an excellent classroom for the development of psychology and character. Pilgrimage teaches people about patience and endurance. There are many situations in Makkah where you can test your patience and endurance. While circumambulating the Holy Kaaba or walking inside the Grand Mosque, you encounter millions of other Muslims from all directions. Some push you, some hurry, and in most places, it’s extremely crowded.

In these conditions, you will learn how to ignore others’ mistakes or their actions rather than getting angry. During Umrah, when the body gets tired, the person’s mood becomes irritable. Here, pilgrimage teaches you to maintain your good nature despite fatigue. It builds your resilience, the ability to not lose courage even in difficult circumstances. When you come back to your home country from there, you are not just someone who has successfully performed Umrah but a person who has become a patient (Sabir).

A Connection with History

When you visit Makkah for Umrah, you become a part of a 1400-year-old living history. Let’s see how history can make your Umrah trip a life-changing one. Starting your journey by planning your trip with a trusted Umrah travel agency really helps in arranging flights, hotels, and guidance for the pilgrimage.

Every step of Umrah belongs to some remarkable Islamic event. For example, while walking in the streets of Madinah, you can feel the liveness of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Similarly, when you perform Sa’ee, you remember the struggle of Hajirah (A.S), which she did in search of water for her son Ismail (A.S).

Pilgrims can explore the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S), who constructed the Holy Kaaba. The footprints of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) are still present on the stone at the Grand Mosque. In addition, you can visit the historical Ziyarat places where the foundation of Islam was laid, such as Mount Uhud, Cave of Hira, Cave of Thawr, etc. This historical connection can change your life in the form of a renewal of faith.

In conclusion, don’t consider Umrah just a tourism; it’s totally different from every other luxury trip in the world because it introduces the purity and beauty within you. You will realise that real peace is not in money or comfort, but at the doorstep of Allah SWT. So then, what’s the delay? If you are in search of something life-changing, your next trip should be Umrah!
